Representative Experience
Specializing in multi-location retail, restaurant, and theatre businesses, Janet represents Sundance Cinemas and other employers in general business and employment matters. Her more than twenty years of experience as a business executive in the movie theatre business is a proven asset to her practice.

Janet also defends media companies in state and federal court in First Amendment issues including defamation and other publication disputes, and advocates for media access to courts and public records.

Recent employment matters include defending employers in sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits, Employment Development Audits, Labor Commission proceedings, and unemployment appeals. Janet also provides counseling to employers concerning sexual harassment investigations, terminations of employment, plant closings, employee disciplinary actions, formulation of personnel policies, drafting employee handbooks, and related human resources issues in an effort to avoid employment disputes.

Recent intellectual property cases include defending the publisher of a Marilyn Monroe biography against claims of copyright infringement regarding seven Monroe photographs appearing in the book, obtaining summary judgment on grounds that photographs were in the public domain. See Milton H. Greene Archives, Inc. v. BPI Communications, Inc., 378 F. Supp. 2d 1189 (C.D. Cal. 2005).

Recent general and business litigation cases include representing various businesses in business tort claims and individuals in real estate disputes. Janet has also negotiated agreements in mediation and in pre-litigation contexts to avoid litigation.
