Areas of Practice
Litigation including technical corporate litigation, officer and director professional liability claims, energy and insurance.

Mr. Jack is the Vice-Chair of the Litigation Department, and also serves on the following committees of the firm: Executive Committee and Strategic Growth Committee. He has formerly served as the Chair of the firm’s Compensation Committee.

Representative Experience
Mr. Jack’s diverse trial practice includes the litigation of suits that are typically technical and complex. During his career he has tried or arbitrated over 50 cases through to verdict or decision. He has served on the Civil Law Advisory Committee of Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul DeMuniz, and has served as the Chair of the Oregon State Bar Procedure and Practice Committee. He has routinely testified before the Oregon Legislature concerning proposed changes to the Oregon court rules.

Representative Cases as Lead Counsel:

McCoon v. Wiederhorn, et al. Defense of officers and directors of publicly traded company in shareholder derivative suit against claims for breach of fiduciary duty and corporate waste.

Pacific Office Automation v. CNC Business Machines, Inc. Representation of defendant corporate President in claims for theft of trade secrets, misappropriation of confidential information, interference with contractual relations and breach of non-compete.

Tague v. Hurd and Biale. Defense of corporate officers against claims for breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and oppression arising out of corporate buy-out by 8 th largest advertising company in the world.

Powerex Corp. v. Alcan Inc. Representation of Alcan Inc. in defense of claims for breach of contract seeking damages in excess of $100 million arising out of complex power contracts involving Enron trading practices.

Saguaro Power Co. v. Nevada Power Co. Representation of independent power generator at trial in Nevada against claims for breach of 30 year power supply contract arising out of energy scheduling practices. Sought declaratory relief, injunctive relief and damages

Wilshire Real Estate Investment Trust v. Wilshire Financial Services Group, Inc. Representation of plaintiff publicly held company and its officers against claims for breach of contract.

Lodewick, et al. v. BP Energy Co., et al. Representation of defendant energy trader in class action arising out of alleged improper trading practices in WSCC.

Northwest Natural Gas v. Enerfin Resources, Ltd. Defense of energy company against claims relating to natural gas field ownership and operations.

AFA, Inc. v. Rhino Enterprises, et al. Representation of plaintiff in pursuit of claims for breach of non-competition agreement and theft of trade secrets against former officer of defendant corporation.

Lanphere v. Walker and Roberts, et al. Representation of plaintiff shareholder in derivative and direct claims against shareholders and directors of closely held company for breach of fiduciary duty, corporate waste, fraud and oppression of minority shareholder.

Insurance D&O and Coverage Work. For 12 years have represented companies such as St. Paul Travelers, Aetna, Continental Casualty, and IFG Companies in commercial coverage and in the defense of director and officer liability cases in Oregon and Washington.
