Represents cable and network broadcasters, book publishers, national magazines, newspapers, and individual authors and artists in the areas of libel, privacy, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, obscenity, newsgathering issues, access, advertising and publishing law

In addition to litigation, regularly provides prepublication review of editorial, advertising and promotional copy, advice on electronic and internet publishing, syndication and circulation issues and intellectual property rights acquisition and licensing

Recent matters include:

• Counsel to Random House and Dan Brown in obtaining dismissal of copyright infringement action arising out of The DaVinci Code
• Counsel to John Steinbeck’s literary agents in pending action brought by Steinbeck’s heirs regarding rights to all Steinbeck works
• Counsel to Random House and Joe Klein in obtaining dismissal of libel-in-fiction claims arising out of Primary Colors
• Counsel to Warner Television in obtaining dismissal of theft of ideas claims in connection with The West Wing
• Counsel to Random House and Susanna Kaysen in obtaining dismissal of privacy action arising out of memoir
• Counsel to Castle Rock Entertainment, NBC and Jerry Seinfeld in obtaining the obtaining dismissal of right of publicity and libel claims asserted by Mike Costanza in connection with Seinfeld
