APRIL 2, 2019 – World Trademark Review has named Davis Wright Tremaine one of the 20 best firms in the country in trademark law.

The publication’s annual global ranking, known as the WTR 1000, evaluates factors such as depth of expertise, market presence, and favorable reviews from clients and fellow attorneys.

In New York, Davis Wright Tremaine was named one of the top firms in prosecution and strategy as well as enforcement and litigation. WTR recognized Alexandra Nicholson, chair of the firm’s media, entertainment, intellectual property, and technology practice group, with a Gold ranking, describing her as “second to none in terms of sector expertise.” Marcia Paul was also honored for her “rich blend” of expertise and “holistic solutions.” Roxanne Elings was once again the only attorney in the WTR rankings to be recognized as a national leader in all three of the following practice areas: anti-counterfeiting; enforcement and litigation; and prosecution and strategy, where she received a Gold ranking. WTR described her as “operating nimbly in technology and media, and the fashion, beauty, and luxury goods fields.”

Davis Wright Tremaine was one of just two firms to receive WTR’s Gold ranking in Washington state. Cindy Caditz and Stuart Dunwoody were also individually assigned Gold rankings. Newly added to the Silver rankings this year is Matthew Moersfelder, whom WTR described as a “brand protection connoisseur.” Said WTR about the firm’s Washington group: “Working with Davis Wright Tremaine’s IP team is like working with a top IP boutique—you get highly specialised advice and an efficient, focused service. However, as it operates within a well-built national general practice, the group does a better job than most single-practice firms in terms of aligning its advice with the business needs of its clients.”

In Oregon, DWT was recognized as one of a small group of top trademark practices. WTR praised the group’s “wide-ranging industry expertise, prosecution dexterity and cutting-edge enforcement and anti-counterfeiting skills.” Sheila Fox Morrison was singled out as one of just three Gold-ranked practitioners in the state.

In our Washington, D.C., office, David Silverman was recognized for his “strong following in the communications industry.”

In California, Alonzo Wickers was listed for prosecution and strategy and described as a first call for clients in the entertainment, media, and technology sectors for “designing bulletproof strategy.”
