APRIL 27, 2020 – Dayna Nicholson, counsel in the healthcare practice group at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, and Diana Palacios, counsel on the firm's media and entertainment team, have been recognized in the Los Angeles Business Journal as two of the city's Most Influential Women Attorneys.

"We're delighted to see these two dynamic young leaders receive such important recognition," said Camilo Echavarria, Davis Wright Tremaine's Los Angeles partner-in-charge. "Dayna and Diana exemplify our firm's commitment to being a leading player in our strategic areas of focus in California."

Nicholson is a key figure in the California healthcare space. Her practice focuses on operations, regulatory compliance, medical staff governance, credentialing and peer review, and information privacy (including data breaches).  Her experience also extends to licensing and accreditation issues, appeals of administrative penalties, corporate governance and emergency-care requirements. She collaborates closely with hospitals, medical staffs, ancillary providers, medical groups, clinical labs, medical device retailers, and other players in the industry to identify and implement solutions to common and complex legal hurdles.

Nicholson is on the board of the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys and previously served as board president for the Women in Healthcare Administration of Southern California as well as chair of the Health Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Nicholson is also an important participant in Davis Wright Tremaine's Project W initiative, which aims to provide women entrepreneurs the tools, connections, and expertise necessary to build successful businesses. She is leading Project W's expansion into the healthcare space.

Nicholson's pro bono service includes working closely with The Los Angeles Trust for Children's Health in its collaboration with on-campus Wellness Centers established by the Los Angeles Unified School District Student Health and Human Services Division. These clinics are open to not only students but also their families and members of the surrounding communities for important preventative care, health promotion, and mental health care.

Palacios is an up-and-coming leader in Davis Wright Tremaine's top-ranked media and entertainment group. She focuses her practice on media, First Amendment, and intellectual property litigation and counseling. She works on a range of matters, including defamation, records and courtroom access, privacy, right-of-publicity, false advertising, copyright, and trademark issues. She also provides pre-publication and pre-broadcast counseling in both English and Spanish for studios, television networks, production companies, and newspapers.

In the past year, she has helped win important litigation victories on behalf of clients including CNN, Showtime Networks, and Beasley Media Group. Palacios was selected as a 2020 Southern California Rising Star by Super Lawyers and was featured in the Up Next Section of Variety's 2019 Legal Impact Report.

Palacios continues to give back to her community through educating the next generation of lawyers. Since 2018, she has taught at her alma mater, University of California-Irvine School of Law. She currently teaches both a full course on the First Amendment and a short course on Introduction to California Federal Local Rules and Filings.
