SEPT. 28, 2023 – Mike O'Brien, a partner in the labor and employment practice group at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has been honored by the Alaska Bar Association with its 2023 Professionalism Award.
The Professionalism Award recognizes an attorney "who exemplifies the attributes of the true professional, whose conduct is always consistent with the highest standards of practice, and who displays appropriate courtesy and respect for clients and other attorneys."
O'Brien was recognized last week at the bar association's annual meeting in Fairbanks.
"Mike's integrity, excellence, and compassion always shine through," said Elizabeth Hodes, Davis Wright's Anchorage partner-in-charge, who also practices labor and employment law. "He is a model for all of us and we're extraordinarily proud to have our clients and colleagues benefit from his professionalism."
Said O'Brien when receiving the award: "This is also a recognition of the many wonderful clients who have trusted me to be their advisor in very trying situations."
O'Brien's reputation is built on being responsive to his clients' needs while helping them creatively navigate their thorniest problems. He has extensive experience in matters related to collective bargaining (blue-collar and white-collar), union organizing, labor arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, and general labor-management relations. He also leads internal workplace investigations, counsels on crisis management, and trains on discrimination avoidance and other HR matters. His clients range from the largest Fortune 50 companies to utilities, Alaska Native Corporations, and regional and local businesses.
O'Brien has also served as a tenacious litigator on behalf of clients for over two decades, with more than 60 jury trials and frequent appearances before the NLRB, the EEOC, ASCHR, the U.S. Department of Education, and other federal and state administrative agencies.
O'Brien also has a long record of community service and was previously recognized by the Alaska Bar with its Bryan P. Timbers Pro Bono Award.
