OCTOBER 15, 2024 – Continuing the firm's strategic expansion in the Bay Area, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has added Tom Stout, a former federal prosecutor and seasoned trial lawyer, as a partner in San Francisco.

Stout's practice focuses on white-collar defense, government and internal investigations, and complex civil litigation. He brings to the firm more than 15 years of experience trying and winning difficult cases for clients across a range of industries, including technology, financial services, energy, healthcare, and engineering. For the past five years, he has successfully represented diverse clients at London & Stout P.C., a firm he co-founded.

"Tom has a proven track record of success representing executives, entrepreneurs, and businesses of all sizes," said Rob Maguire, chair of the litigation group at DWT. "He has persuaded prosecutors not to pursue criminal cases against his clients, secured early dismissal with prejudice of civil securities fraud claims, and negotiated favorable pre-indictment plea agreements that spared his clients prison. With his exceptional skills and experience, he will significantly deepen our bench in a practice and market where we have a strong strategic focus. We're delighted to welcome him."

"Tom's entrepreneurial nature will fit right in with the other partners in our San Francisco office as we continue to collectively grow and build in the Bay Area," said Vid Prabhakaran, DWT's San Francisco partner-in-charge. "I'm excited to be able to offer clients across the industries DWT serves the capabilities of such a talented lawyer to further our firm's strategic plan."

Stout served for nearly a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern and Central Districts of California after clerking for the Honorable Virginia A. Phillips of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Stout led investigations and prosecutions of federal crimes, including corporate securities fraud, mortgage fraud, healthcare fraud, investor fraud, bank fraud, and procurement fraud. He was selected to teach trial advocacy to new prosecutors as faculty with the U.S. Department of Justice National Advocacy Center.

"Davis Wright Tremaine is a litigation leader, recognized for excellence nationally and in the Bay Area," said Stout. "I'm proud to be joining this great team, and I look forward to bringing my clients the benefit of the firm's full-service platform and its national strength."

Stout is the second highly skilled litigation partner to join DWT's San Francisco office this year. James Sigel, a former Supreme Court clerk and expert on constitutional, statutory, and regulatory issues, came to the firm in May.
