Enforcement of NYC AI Audit Law Delayed Until April 15, 2023
Earlier this week, the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protections (DCWP) announced that it would delay enforcement of the New York City AI audit law from January 1, 2023, to April 15, 2023.
The announcement follows the DCWP's November 4, 2022 public comments hearing on the agency's proposed rules implementing the AI audit law (the hearing transcript is available here). This hearing was attended by over 270 individuals and addressed various deficiencies in the proposed rules, including but not limited to the lack of any grace period for enforcement once the rules are finalized, which would help ensure companies are given enough time to comply with the AI audit law.
The DCWP also announced that it will be holding a second public comments hearing before April 15, 2023, but it has not scheduled the date or set a deadline for submission of additional comments. DWT will continue to provide updates regarding this developing law and associated regulations while helping clients address these issues.
