As players from across the online ecosystem have lined up to debate the effects of net neutrality, the financial services world has generally stayed out of the fray. That does not mean, however, that financial institutions aren't keeping a close eye on what the FCC is doing and how it might affect their businesses and customer bases. American Banker reporter Joe Adler recently published a piece entitled "What 'Net Neutrality' Could Mean for Banks." Mr. Adler turned to DWT payments team member Andy Lorentz for some input on the topic of how telecom carriers and ISPs might approach the issue of exerting control or influence over access to bank and other payment provider websites. Andy had this to say:
They would probably consider it a mistake to try to disadvantage financial institutions in any way in the delivery of financial products and services to consumers because that could rebound on the carrier in a negative way.
