In honor of National Native American Heritage Month, we are discussing the history of Indian Boarding Schools and the process of ongoing community healing.
Jim Aqpayuk LaBelle Sr., a board member with the The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS), introduces the history of what were known as "U.S. Indian Boarding Schools," his experience of being sent to the Wrangell Institute at age eight, the recent discoveries of mass graves of children at several school sites, and the healing work being done in the Native community. DWT's Jessica Roberts, a member of the Cherokee Nation, moderates this discussion.
