Caitlyn Cowan is a member of the firm's commercial litigation practice, representing clients from a range of industries in complex commercial and contractual litigation matters. She has successfully represented and defended her clients through all stages of litigation, including through jury trial and final arbitration hearing, in disputes up to $1 billion.
Before joining DWT, Caitlyn was an associate at a Chambers Band 1 general commercial litigation firm in Houston. She also served as a judicial clerk to Chief Judge Priscilla Richman on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in Austin, Texas.
Contract dispute related to sale of oil-and-gas business line*
Represented oilfield services company in a contract dispute that culminated in a four-week jury trial. Was a key member of the trial team from day one, leading discovery, defending and taking multiple depositions, drafting numerous briefs, and preparing the case for trial. During trial, presented a key witness over three days and cross-examined another. (Harris County, Texas, 2023)
Tanos Exploration II, LLC v. PetroTech Solutions, LLC, et al.*
Represented well operator in a suit against its chemical supplier for products liability, breach of contract, breach of warranty, and exemplary damages in relation to a well blowout and devastating corrosion on other wells in East Texas. Defended and took expert depositions, assisted in drafting numerous filings, and was actively involved in trial preparation. Months before trial, the court found that Tanos had "demonstrated a substantial likelihood of success on the merits of a claim for exemplary damages." On the eve of trial, the matter settled favorably for Tanos on confidential terms. (Harrison County, Texas, 2023)
