Valerie Gallo helps businesses of all sizes navigate the challenges associated with running a successful workplace in a variety of industries such as healthcare, tourism, transportation, retail, and media. She has defended numerous companies against claims of discrimination and harassment, with particular focus on claims of disability discrimination and failure to provide a reasonable accommodation. Valerie is also committed to providing advice to clients on how to make modifications in the workplace, which not only aim to reduce exposure to litigation, but also aim to improve the employee's work environment.

Valerie has several years of experience litigating matters in state court, federal court, and various arbitration forums. She is experienced with all aspects of litigation, including taking and defending depositions, preparing substantive motions for hearing in court, and trial. She also is experienced with informal negotiations, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Valerie also has experience conducting arbitrations in a variety of forums, including AAA and FINRA. Before joining Davis Wright Tremaine, Valerie defended a variety of clients in civil matters, including financial services professionals, architects, engineers and design firms, and public entities.

Practice Highlights

Single plaintiff discrimination and harassment claims

Defending clients against claims of workplace discrimination and harassment, including claims based on race, gender, and age. Litigating numerous cases involving claims of disability discrimination and failure to provide reasonable accommodation, including matters involving leaves of absence. Experience defending clients against related claims, including defamation and slander.

Arbitration experience

Significant experience preparing for and conducting arbitration in multiple forums, including recent victory for client on alleged wrongful termination claim. Experience includes preparing for and participating in successful arbitrations on behalf of financial service clients in FINRA forum.

State and federal civil lawsuits

Working in all aspects of state and federal litigation, including taking and defending dozens of depositions as well as courtroom experience, including oral arguments on substantive motions. Handling complex substantive motions, including motions for summary judgment. Assisting in drafting successful preliminary and permanent injunction motions in federal courts.

First chair for matters for global technology company

Regularly acts as first chair in resolving, through negotiation and arbitration, breach of contract claims brought by independent contractors, with emphasis on preserving standard contract terms and ensuring business values and customer service standards are maintained. (Ongoing)

Defense and trial preparation for global media company

Representing global media company in all facets of defense against single-plaintiff discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, including resolving discovery disputes and successfully preparing summary judgment motions, with particular experience in full pre-trial preparation and arbitrations. (Ongoing)

Representation of large healthcare provider

Providing day-to-day litigation management and oversight for a national healthcare provider, including discovery, motion practice, developing case strategy, and arbitration/mediation. (Ongoing)

FINRA and securities litigation for finance industry client*

Served as second chair in a successful multi-week arbitration in which our client, a broker dealer, alleged that another broker dealer poached our client's employees.
