Marissa Marxen Giacomelli works on the litigation team. She prides herself on providing clients with strong prosecution and/or defense of a case. Before joining DWT, Marissa worked at several civil litigation firms, including a plaintiffs' labor and employment class action firm and insurance defense firm. From 2017 to 2020, Marissa managed her own practice, while also working as outside counsel for a large solar and roofing company. She has first-chaired three trials, including two bench trials as well as a two-week jury trial, resulting in a verdict and entry of judgment in her clients' favor.

Marissa has a large variety of civil litigation experience, including but not limited to real estate litigation; insurance/bad faith litigation; labor and employment litigation; construction dispute and defect litigation; and business litigation. She also has experience enforcing judgments. In total, Marissa has recovered over $1.1 million for her clients.

From 2020 to 2022, Marissa also worked as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Roger T. Benitez and the Hon. Linda Lopez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Her clerking experience along with her experience during law school as a judicial extern for the Hon. Gonzalo P. Curiel provide her with an intimate understanding of the federal judicial system.

Dismissals & judgments

Marissa has secured complete dismissals of lawsuits for at least five clients, without any payment to the plaintiff, and over $975,000 in judgments in favor of various clients.

First chair in a complex, three-day personal injury bench trial in San Diego Superior Court.

Bond v. Asper*

First chair in complex real estate and promissory fraud jury trial in Bond v. Asper, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 37-2018-00017530-CU-OR-CTL, which resulted in a verdict in favor of the client.

OZH Holding I, LLC v. Lavante Hunt*

First chair for unlawful detainer bench trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court, which resulted in a successful judgment in favor of the client.
