Mary Goetz is a member of the firm's media practice group with a specialty in federal appeals. Recognized as a top-rated appellate attorney and rising star by Super Lawyers, Mary has represented clients in defamation, civil rights, RICO, and other appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court and the D.C., 3rd, and 9th Circuits. She has experience coordinating complex lawsuits, including class actions, at the district court level, providing clients with litigation support at every stage.

Mary has also handled appeals on a wide array of issues including immigration, habeas, and bankruptcy and has received High Honors from the D.C. Courts' Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll. After earning her J.D. at Harvard, Mary served as a law clerk for now-Chief Judge Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and for Chief Judge Srinivasan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Dupree v. Younger*

Represented client in civil rights case before the U.S. Supreme Court on a federal procedural question concerning preservation of purely legal issues for appellate review. (U.S. 2023)

Florio v. Gallaudet University*

Defended The Washington Post in a defamation case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit concerning the Post's reporting on a local university president's remarks concerning one of its fraternities. Appellate decision pending. (D.C. Cir. 2023)

Ocee v. Attorney General*

Successfully represented immigration client in appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit raising administrative law challenges to the immigration court's asylum determination. Asylum obtained for client in agreement with the government upon remand. (3rd Cir. 2022)
