OneTaste v. Netflix

Obtained complete dismissal of high-profile defamation case over documentary "Orgasm Inc.," which explored the controversial "sexual wellness" organization OneTaste, whose leaders were indicted for alleged forced labor conspiracy after the film's release. Court granted our Anti-SLAPP motion and awarded full attorney fees in six-figure range. (Cal. Super. Ct. 2024) Previously, in a related matter also against Netflix, we defeated an unconstitutional attempt to enjoin the film's distribution on the eve of its release. (Cal. Super. Ct. 2022)

Parmley v. Amazon Studios

Defended Amazon Studios in a copyright infringement lawsuit arising from plaintiff's allegation that Amazon's award-winning television series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" infringes the copyright in the plaintiff's memoir and screenplay. DWT moved for summary judgment on various grounds, including lack of substantial similarity, independent creation, and lack of access. The case was successfully resolved. (E.D. La. 2020)

Brophy v. Almazar

Trial counsel for Cardi B and former record company, in an action for alleged misappropriation of likeness and related claims, obtaining jury verdict in defendants' favor. (C.D. Cal. 2022)

Chapman Roberts v. BroadwayHD LLC

Represented Amazon and BroadwayHD in copyright infringement action alleging defendants did not have the rights to certain vocal arrangements embodied in the musical "Smokey Joe's Café." (S.D.N.Y. 2023)

Gordy v. Universal City Entertainment, et al.

Defending Universal, Amazon, and director Timothy Bogart against defamation and related claims brought by music executive Berry Gordy, in connection with the feature film, "Spinning Gold." (L.A.S.C. Ongoing)
