Jeff Licitra is a registered patent attorney and former patent examiner in computer engineering. Jeff specializes in the application of cutting-edge technologies—including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), blockchain, cryptography, biometrics, and cloud computing—to the Internet of Things (IoT) and financial services spaces.
Trained in computer architecture and focused on the rapidly evolving field of IoT tech, Jeff has an advanced understanding of the intricate technical aspects (both hardware and software) of smart devices and systems with wearable, household, commercial, and industrial applications. Jeff pairs this technical background with a solid grasp of the legal issues facing the life cycle of a patent, from prosecution and issue to post-grant proceedings. He is one of few patent attorneys whose career trajectory spans work in all stages of patent approval: examination, prosecution, and litigation.
After serving several years as a USPTO patent examiner, Jeff joined a small D.C. firm and focused on IP litigation, including appeals of PTAB decisions on patent invalidity at the Federal Circuit. At DWT, he concentrates on patent prosecution full time. He also serves on the D.C. Bar's Intellectual Property Law Steering Committee. Jeff's broad experience underlies his commitment to providing the highest possible standard of advocacy to the client.
