As a member of our healthcare practice group, Leslie Murphy focuses her practice on representing healthcare entities in managed care and other healthcare-related disputes. She routinely serves as lead counsel on behalf of hospitals and healthcare providers in arbitration with health plans, and counsels clients on complex medical billing, coding, and reimbursement matters. Leslie has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of healthcare entity clients.

Leslie's breadth of experience in managed care disputes allows her to develop cost-efficient case management processes and customized databases for disputes involving thousands of provider claims and voluminous records. She is highly knowledgeable in billing and coding for hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare entities. She is a Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), a certification of in-depth knowledge of medical coding systems, such as CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10.

Leslie also counsels hospital systems and healthcare provider clients regarding a variety of operational and compliance matters. She often works with providers to develop operational strategies for revenue-cycle improvements and to mitigate risks. She understands relevant regulation and compliance processes, allowing her to help healthcare clients understand and address legal obligations and promote organizational integrity. Leslie is certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).

Complex breach of contract and unfair competition dispute

Represented a large healthcare system in binding arbitration in a complex breach of contract and unfair competition dispute arising out of a large health plan's reimbursement of hospital, professional, and ancillary provider claims. 

Medi-Cal plan contract provisions

Represented a hospital system in binding arbitration with a managed Medi-Cal plan regarding contract provisions related to the payment of emergency, trauma, and continued acute inpatient care. 

Contract provisions related to reimbursement

Represented a large hospital system in binding arbitration with a large health plan regarding contract provisions related to reimbursement of services provided to members with various types of coverage including commercial, ERISA self-funded plans, out of state Blue Card plans, Medicare Advantage, and Managed Medi-Cal. 

Reimbursement of continued acute inpatient care

Represented a large hospital system in binding arbitration with a large health plan involving the interpretation of various contract provisions related to the reimbursement of continued acute inpatient care while the patients were awaiting placement for commercial and managed Medi-Cal members. 

Reimbursement of inpatient and outpatient services

Represented a large hospital system in binding arbitration with a large health plan involving the interpretation of various contract provisions related to the reimbursement of inpatient and outpatient services provided to managed Medi-Cal members under the Private Hospital Directed Payment Program.
