Practice Highlights

Employer advice and counsel

Helps clients with employment issues big and small, from advice on personnel issues, protected leaves, wage-and-hour questions, and policies and procedures, to administrative proceedings, litigation, and appeals. Cultivates individualized relationships that promote the employer's key interests and priorities. Advocates sincerely on behalf of clients.

Regulatory compliance

Reviews and advises on workplace health and safety compliance at federal, state, and local levels. Conducts internal audits. Helps clients understand minimum compliance requirements and develop best practices. Experienced with OSHA and state counterparts, state and federal administrative agency regulations, state and local health department orders, federal equal employment opportunity requirements, and those of state counterparts.

Employment law trainings and presentations

Provides both mandatory and elective trainings on a broad range of labor and employment topics: supervisory best practices, harassment prevention, protected leaves, emergency pandemic workplace safety and compliance requirements, wage-and-hour requirements, developing a positive and respectful workplace, legal updates on new and pending legislation and how it affects employers, and the like.

Successful union dues deduction defense and appeal*

Secured dismissal of First and 14th Amendment claims by a current employee against an employer, alleging unconstitutional deduction of union dues from wages (post-Janus). Dismissal was upheld on appeal. (2024)

Prevailed in arbitration of contractual bonus payments*

Demonstrated that a large employer correctly paid contractual bonus amounts to a longtime employee at the proper times; overcame allegations that bonuses had been wrongfully withheld and proved a consistent record of correct payments. Established precedent for the contractual bonus provision that showed the employer was handling the bonus correctly, deterring future challenges.
