MAY 8, 2013 – Christin McMeley, who served as in-house counsel for Charter Communications for almost a decade, has joined Davis Wright Tremaine LLP as a partner. She will practice out of the firm's Washington, D.C., office.
During her tenure at Charter, the fourth-largest cable operator in the U.S., McMeley led the company's cable regulatory group and government affairs teams. She also served as the company's chief privacy officer and successfully implemented the company's first privacy and data security program. Prior to joining Charter, she was an associate at Davis Wright's predecessor firm in D.C., where she represented telecom, cable, and wireless entities in complex litigation before federal and state courts, and before the FCC.
McMeley joins the privacy and security practice group at Davis Wright, and will advise companies in various industries in privacy compliance, information governance, data security, public policy, and regulatory matters.
"I am thrilled to be able to join such a skilled group of attorneys," said McMeley. "The privacy arena is such a rapidly changing environment and practitioners have to stay ahead of the curve to provide the best advice to their clients. Davis Wright's experience in representing cutting-edge technology companies and leading media and communications companies, and its strong reputation for excellent client service, both support a growing privacy practice. As an in-house privacy officer, I had to consider how constantly evolving, multifaceted regulations at both the state and federal levels affected the company's business, and I will offer that same holistic perspective to the firm's clients."
"Privacy and security concerns are paramount these days for companies in all industries," said Steven J. Horvitz, partner-in-charge at Davis Wright's Washington, D.C., office. "Our privacy and security team features lawyers with deep subject-matter knowledge in areas ranging from communications to health care to financial services. But Christin adds to that group practical know-how, a detailed understanding of the regulatory landscape, and 360-degree insight into the many issues our clients are wrestling with."
McMeley received her B.A. from Missouri State University and her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law. In addition to the District of Columbia, she is licensed to practice in Missouri.
