JUNE 26, 2017 – Amy Mushahwar, a lawyer with nearly two decades of experience working in the field of privacy and information security, has joined Davis Wright Tremaine as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
As both a lawyer and former technologist, Ms. Mushahwar is adept at helping clients fully understand the legal and regulatory risks in complex information systems and networks. She has considerable experience advising clients on all aspects of incident response as well as advocating for clients on privacy and security actions before numerous regulatory agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, and state Attorney General offices.

Ms. Mushahwar comes to the firm from the boutique ZwillGen PLLC, where she served as counsel and chief information officer. She previously practiced at Ballard Spahr and Reed Smith, all in Washington, D.C.
Her frequent work as incident response counsel has included communicating on behalf of her clients with federal and state agencies, overseeing forensics services and grey hat intelligence providers, preparing consumer notifications, and helping with remediation efforts. She also provides her clients with compliance advice on security laws, security audit standards, and payment card brand security standards.
Her broad privacy experience includes advising clients on compliance with laws such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Graham Leach Bliley Act (GLB), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Consumer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) regulations, as well as federal and state unfair and deceptive trade practices laws pertaining to privacy.
Before entering the law, Ms. Mushahwar spent several years as a technology consultant, performing network security design and implementation.
She received her B.A. from George Washington University and her J.D. from Catholic University.
