JULY 18, 2024 – The South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of North America has given its Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award to Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, continuing the firm's string of recognitions in DEI leadership in the legal profession.

SABA-NA gives the annual award to a law firm or corporation that demonstrates a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion, highlighting several key areas: innovative efforts to increase diversity on the basis of race, origin, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, age, and other metrics, both internally within the organization and publicly; significant diversity in senior leadership positions; and active pro bono initiatives.

SABA-NA announced the award before holding its in-person annual conference July 11-14 in Toronto. Seven attorneys from across Davis Wright's offices — Amit Aulakh, Nimra Azmi, Moiz Bharmal, Stevin George, Meenakshi Krishnan, Thaila Sundaresan, and Gaurav Talwar — attended. Sundaresan, who accepted the award on behalf of the firm, moderated the panel "Unpacking SCOTUS 2024" and George moderated "The Transformative and Ethical Implications of Artificial Intelligence." The conference promotes professional development and networking for South Asian lawyers in North America.

"In addition to insightful presentations and networking opportunities for lawyers, this year's conference highlighted cultural engagement and celebration, so we are honored to be recognized again for our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts by such an important organization," said Yusuf Zakir, Davis Wright's chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer.

SABA, which has 29 chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, previously named Davis Wright its Law Firm Diversity Champion in 2018. Other recent DEI accolades for Davis Wright include awards from major clients such as the 2024 Law Firm DEIB Recognition Award from LPL Financial, the T-Mobile 2023 Excellence in Diversity Award, and the 2022 Citi Law Firm Diversity Champion Award. The firm also is participating in the Diversity Lab's "Moments to Movements Hackathon," where 100+ lawyers from across the country "hack" the toughest challenges facing DEI in law and other fields.
